Five Travel Resolutions for the New Year

Five Travel Resolutions for the New Year

By Kayleigh DeMace on Jan 31st 2018

With a new year comes the drive to do new things. This year, if you're thinking that you'd like to travel more, we've got some great ideas for you.

Whether you choose one, a few, or all, these are some great ideas to kick off your 2018 travel season!

5) Use more of your vacation days

There's nothing better than resetting, but to do that you need to make the time for it. This year, take time for you. Make sure you use more of your hard-earned vacation time to travel, see new places, and refresh.

Check out our post on Project: Time Off to learn more about the importance of taking time off and why you shouldn't feel bad about it!

4) Go somewhere new

Once you've made it a point to use more of your vacation time, think about traveling to a new place. Sure, we all have our favorite getaways that we swear we can never visit enough, but going somewhere new this year is a must. And it'll make you appreciate your favorite places more and you'll revisit them in the future with even more excitement!

Ask yourself what one place you've never been to but have always wanted to see, then book the trip! You'll be glad you did.

3) Unplug

This one is hard for some of us because we all love taking and sharing photos of our experiences with friends and family. While that is great, consider sharing the posts once you get home.

If you're worried about showing everyone how much fun you're having, you're not going to have as much fun as you could be having. Go ahead and send a few photos to the people really close to you, but stay off of social media, at least!

Do at least one thing while on vacation where you don't use your camera and really enjoy your time away from it all. Unplug and spend more time in the moment.

2) Fly solo

This is a big one for some people: going on a vacation alone. There is no better way to reset and decompress than to get away from everything and spend some quality time alone. This could be as simple as taking a day trip, a hike, or spending a night in alone. It's a really big accomplishment, no matter what you decide to do.

If you travel or take a hike alone, make sure someone knows where you went, what your itinerary is, and when you're due back home. Honestly, even when traveling with someone, this is always a good idea.

1) See as many national parks as possible

This one is great for the outdoors type, and something I want to take a stab at this year. Get outside and see more national parks! Another great thing about this resolution is that you can build travel, hiking, and even camping (if you want) all into one resolution.

No matter your plans, flying might be a big part of them. Take a look at the Getaway Map from farecompare.com. Here, you can set how much money you want to spend on a flight and select the dates when you want to fly. The site will then map out some destinations for you! It's a fun and exciting way to plan your next trip.

What are your travel resolutions for this year? Let us know in the comments!
